It appears that after their contract with Dark Horse expires, Star Wars comics will return to Marvel. I figure there's some G.I. Joe connection here, given that the two comics shared shelf space back in the day.

Star Wars can be considered a partial inspiration for the 1980's G.I. Joe line, as the small figures and the line of toys based on a storyline with established characters helped lead Hasbro to create the new Joe, and influenced their decision to give the license to Marvel.

Something of an update......that sounds interesting...

http://theforce.net/latestnews/story/Ru ... 149417.asp

Randy Stradley, editor of Dark Horse's Star Wars comics, posted the following message on one of the Dark Horse forum's discussion threads last night: "As I mentioned in another thread, don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Yodazone has the right attitude." That last sentence was in response to another poster's quote: "One random blog entry with no reliable links and it's being posted everywhere on the net."

For the most part, Dark Horse has done a pretty good job with the license and I would like to see it continue on with them. I also know one prolific DH Star Wars comic writer who would really like to see it stay with them. :)

I would kinda LOVE to see Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy do one of the 1st Marvel SW projects (considering DARK EMPIRE was originally developed for Marvel when they still had the license)

For me the timing is kind of ironic. I have been wanting dark horse to go back to the roots of star wars and give us an ongoing comic with classic characters that I care about (Luke, Leia, Han etc.). Continuity be damned! Seriously, all the EU is so bogged down I don't really care about it anymore. Just go back and start from the day after the first death star got blowed up and carry on, of course knowing what happens in ESB and RotJ, but you know, not worrying about all the other continuity. Anyway, they are finally giving us what I've been craving (while still respecting the continuity, which is fine I guess), and they look like they may lose the licence!

Dark horse has been hit and miss over he years, so I don't have a real preferance either way, other than I do think their efforts should be taken into account.

As for Dark Empire... ugh. I think a large part of its success was that the market was so starved for new SW that people just ate it up. I bought it and loved that I was getting SW, but the art was not to my taste (really disappointing, other than the awsome covers), and the resurrected emperor story line was pretty lame.

I'm not sure who I'd like to tackle SW. Right now I'm just excited to get a new Rebellion era comic, so I'm hoping the new just plain ol SW title continues at least for a little while!

Randy Stradley has dropped some comments on the Dark Horse Comics message boards since this "news" broke that seem to indicate.........there's more involved behind the scenes than simply Star Wars moving cold turkey to Marvel anytime soon.

.....Dark Horse may not be so screwed as one would immediately think.

I guess it was inevitable, given the Disney purchase of Marvel and SW.

I wonder if Hasbro will now stop making SW toys... there was a rumour about Hasbro being bought by Disney a while ago.

Well Dark Horse just announced an interesting series. 8 issues based on the Lucas screenplay. Sounds pretty cool. And another indicator that the licence isn't really moving anywhere quite yet. Here's a link:
