Today I got a chance to attend a very special promotion ceremony. When I was a brand new 2nd Lieutenant I was assigned to a Mechanized Infantry Battalion. At the same time there was a new Battalion Commander that took command. He is one of those type of Commanders that you would storm the gates of Hell for if he asked you to. He was not a Patton type personality, he was calm, would always look at all sides of the situation and then make a decision. All the Officers and Senior NCOs of the Battalion loved him.

Well, he his command time came to an end and he moved on, my Platoon Leader time came to an end and I moved on. Over the years our paths would cross and he always remembered who I was and of course I always maintained him in very high regard.

Well today he was promoted to Brigadier General, and no Officer deserves it more then him. I was excited when I heard he was up for this promotion and I was even more excited to be there and see him recieve his first star.

Just wanted to share that.

Nice, Phil. I can't relate to that direct military experience, but it's always nice to see good leaders, cilivian or otherwise get their due. It reaffirms my faith that good people actually do get promoted.
