Hi, my name is Phil, and I am a GI Joe comic junkie....
BUT....
For some reason I am not excited about the upcoming Storm Shadow book.
What is wrong with me?
When it was first announced, I was really pumped, and now as we get closer and closer to the week it comes out my excitement has diminished.
I think there might be several issues that are hindering me:
1.) AE is just so awesome right now. When SS #1 was announced, AE #21 had not hit the stands yet, and Sins of the Mother was simply a solicitation. NOW...man...words can not describe how much I look forward to each issue and I already knows what happens!
2.) World War III is on the horizon. One of the, if not THE, biggest events ever in the history of the GI Joe comics.
3.) The preview pages we have gotten so far. The art is ok, but I need WORDS. I need to read the dialogue. I have a hard time getting excited on art alone.
4.) Time...as in too much time...It has been months since we first heard about the book, and now it is finally almost upon us. So many things in the main book, and in other books from other companies have occured that I think this one has slipped lower on the "looking forward to this" list.
I am sure I will enjoy the book when I finally get it in my hands, but I am just not feeling it right now.
I feel so alone....
Phil

Nothing wrong with you at all. You are a Joe fan. The AE series is now in the front and SS is just a thing onthe wind. Hard to get excited about a never seen title when the one you knwo and love is primed to go into overdrive.

I feel the same way, Phil. I think for me it's mostly the art. It just doesn't do anything for me. And then, while I have always loved SS, I just don't understand why we have a series with just him. And I know a lot of people feel that way. But it is Larry. I guess had Larry not just done Declassified, this might be a bigger deal, but like so many have said before, with all the Joes out there, SS would have been far down on the list for getting his own series. And that's a hard feeling to shake.

I am not looking forward to the book either. It's a ninja book and features one of the characters that get way too much focus. Yes, Hama has said it will have a "spy" flavor to it, but that's just not enough for me. I want books featuring Joes fighting Cobras or some other terrorist or military related groups like the Red Shadows. I couldn't care less if this book was canceled before issue #6.

Ok...the real five pager is out today ( here)
And NOW, I am excited about the series. This looks like just a fun book overall. While I am sure there will be some intense moments, looking at the first five pages, Larry is wanting to have some fun here.
I like the two dudes dead right off the bat. SS is such a badass.

Man that is a good preview. I like SS's snappy little lines. "old School ninja" indeed.

I can see why some folks aren't too exited about this series. I like SS, but am not a huge fan. I like the ninja stuff so that's cool. And in its own seperate book it can go a little crazier. But I must say a SS book wouldn't have been my first choice. I really wish special missions could be a monthly thing, that would be ideal, but it obviously didn't fly (Frontline was basically SM with a different name). And the art I've seen does nothing for me, so that isn't getting me too excited.
The big appeal for me here is it's written by Hama. That's the draw. I like SS enough, so a character I like written by The Man, I can't help but be a bit excited about it. Now that it's almost upon us it doesn't surprise me, Phil, that your excitement has been renewed. Here's hoping it kicks butt.

At first I wasn't real sure about a series devoted to Storm Shadow, even one written by Larry...but this five-page preview renewed my faith. I'm pretty eager to read dialogue written by Mr. Hama again.
The action will be a blast, too... I'm officially looking forward to it!
