Press Release -

MILITARY VS. MONSTERS: SPOOKS #1 PREMIERES IN FEBRUARY!

DDP presents a special art preview of the team up of Larry Hama, R.A. Salvatore, and Ryan Schifrin!

Chicago, IL. (Dec. 13, 2007) – This February, the titanic creative minds of Larry Hama (G.I. Joe), Ryan Schifrin (director of Abominable) and R.A. Salvatore (Forgotton Realms, Demonwars) team up with artist Adam Archer (Friday the 13th) for the fight of the century in SPOOKS! It’s military vs. monsters in a battle for the fate of humanity, and Devil’s Due is proud to this exclusive sneak peek at interior art from the first two issues!

An action-adventure epic, SPOOKS tells the story of a covert branch of the United States military, a crack team of men and women whose job is to guard the country from all threats supernatural. They are the only thing that stands between the “things that go bump in the night”—Vampires, werewolves, witches, warlocks, and headless horsemen—and the annihilation of the human race! But when the king of all vampires forms an alliance with the deadliest of all witches, an invasion of monsters unlike the world has ever seen is unleashed on America! Be the first to witness the clash of military characters from the mind of Larry Hama and monsters from the mind of R.A. Salvatore!

Created by Ryan Schifrin (director of Abominable) and Daniel Alter (producer of Hitman, Johnny Quest, and Lost Squad), with military concepts created by Larry Hama and classic monsters created by R.A. Salvatore, SPOOKS is written by Hama and Schifrin with art by Adam Archer (Friday the 13th). Issue #1 of the 4-issue miniseries features a regular cover by Greg Staples and a collector's edition cover by Adam Archer, and is available for order in the December issue of PREVIEWS.

I guess I'll just have to hit that "other" comic shop on the way home and pay full price for it. Guys gotta do what he has to nowadays to get everthing I want to read.

This hit the stands today. VERY COOL!!

I thought the story was very good and I can't wait to see how the headless horseman works into the next few issues.

I the headless horseman bit was a pretty origional take on the concept. The artwork was great, and getting the dossiers in the back was a cool extra. I hope this goes monthly. So far so good! :D 8)

Loved it! Classic Hama especially on page 5 excluding ads (sitrep and the military lingo explanation). I too loved the take on the headless horseman. Looking forward to this series.

As per the front cover that would be a big yes. Hopefully sales will warrant a move to monthly status.

Alright, I decided to do a little more in depth look at the book.

The first 11 pages are read above...so I will simply say. I like the extensive Vampire clan and the fued between the Vampires and the Werewolfs (very Underworld feel, which I like).

Zach Ramirez seems like the one agent with the most baggage and the most "ghosts" to kill.

The secrets surrounding Felicia are a good teaser for what is to come (at least up through issue #3)

Now, we enter the whole Headless Horseman story. I did a Google search on General Jack Montague, no such animal. BUT...Montague John Druitt was the number one suspect in the Jack the Ripper case....hmmmm....

The use of the Frankenstein monster as body guards for the Vampires is pretty cool.

Of course the files in the back of the book are pretty cool (you can read them all on the SPOOKS website.)
