I wanted to start a new thread about DRAFTED.

If you have not been reading it, I highly recommend that you check it out. The .99c preview and the first two full issues are out and it is shaping up to be a really interesting series.

All of humaity is being drafted to fight an oncoming alien threat, but there is a lot of confusion and fear that people have to overcome to capable fighters.

Yup, lemme move what I posted elsewhere here about issues 1 and 2:

It has a lot of twists and turns, and you really wonder what'll happen next. Someone dies, oops they're alive, damn they just got killed again. Or did they? People get sliced in half, president moreless in control, but who is very human behind the scenes, filled with questions.

The main thing that bothers me so far is that Powers goes through a lot of trouble to make us understand that most people are decent (the scene when the grocery clerk give the little old lady credit was a bit much) ; oh that and I don't buy that the world leaders would just jump right into the American president's speech and applaud. Lotsa cowards in the wolrd, not sure it would fly that smoothely.

But those are minor itches that just made me shrug and doesn't prevent from enjoying the larger issues in the comic.

The thread about the 99 cents preview is here:

Just finished number 3 and it's still a really great read! I recommend it to everyone on these boards. Honestly.

The itch I had with it last time has disappeared. A new one has appeared though: there's a few ethnic/cultural clichés in there that I could do without, but they're not over the top.

But really, the suspense is intense and every issue so far was worth every penny. Lots of dialogues, makes for a slow and enjoyable read. Gives you time to appreciate details.

It's sci-fi yet it all feels believable, like this seems truly how people would react in this situation. Hats off.

Thank you.
My only problem is the stereo-typical Bug Dumb Jerk(tm) US president.

Thing is it seems specifically to give the muslim woman somebody to beat up on to show how cool she is.
It's a little tired and the soap box is showing.

I guess maybe they'll have the prez and the muslim bond and it'll be an 'Awwwwww' warm fuzzy moment. hahahaha

Other than this  I really like the book and can't wait for the next issue.
So far pretty well done. I like how the aliens are really here to be helpful but being rough about it. Helpful aliens are usually showsn as meek and humble, but these guys grab you by the shorts and scream in your face!

This hurts me more than it does you!
This is for your own good!

Heh.

Yeah I like this book.

That's funny, I didn't perceive him as a jerk (or dumb). Well, in the first couple issues, they showed him as rather determined in his public actions (the guy took a stand against the aliens), but torn in his inner reflexions.

In issue 3 he does come off as a weak person, but I mean the guy thought his actions led to the death of all the Jerusalem inhabitants!

The scene between him and the Pachto woman (which the President calls some kind of an Arab) did annoy me though. Not because she is called an Arab, but just because of the cliché dialogue. The other cultural clichés I had in mind were the loud-mouthed violent Irishman, the thrashy West Coast girl and that little Asian dude with a big rice-harvesting hat on the two page spread. But like I said, it's not over the top, just nitpicking here.

Just read issue 4. Not as intense as the first three issues, but there is a lot of character development. We learn that Audrey's sister is in jail for a crime that was apparently committed by Audrey.

We also learn that the President is an ex-alcoholic, yet another similarity with the current Prez. We learn these things through some kind of hallucinations that some characters have during their training.

Then, as the preview shows, the training is rather intense; they actually get shot at.

The issue ends with a cliffhanger: everybody makes it into the structure, but Gabriel goes back to get the President who fell. He gets the President in, but is stuck outside as menacing ships head towards him...

YAY!!! if devil's due were to fold after having joe taken away- or not given back- could powers and lie take this property to another publisher?

books i buy:

G.I. Joe (soon to be cancelled)
Drafted (a company i worry for financially-could be all wet)
Walking DEad (doing well)
Hack n' Slash (see above)
Savage Dragon (comes out about quarterly)
transformer trades(that i'm growing more and more apathetic toward)

man, where's the walking dead toys and television show?
i'm a multi media kinda guy!
