They did a similiar cover for the incentive cover to Cobra #5. I wonder what GI Joe #5 Incentive cover will look like. These are pretty cool, nice homage to X-Men.

Are they? Which X-Men issues?

Would be a nice addition to the yojoe page on parodies and homages

Umm, my Latin and Greek may be rusty, but I'm pretty sure that ophiophagus means 'serpent-eater', from the Greek ophion + phagos... but I've been wrong before...

I'm sure you're right, but... just where did you read ophiophagus?

I don't see it in the preview...

It's in the comic I picked up today. Vargas called his new virus ophiophagus, and then translated it as 'King Cobra', or some such nonsense...

:D

Aha, thanks.

I think you're right, necrophagous means 'eating the dead' (as in worms are necrophagous)

So ophiophagus must mean snake-eating.

Vargas is alright. I prefer his personality to Scalpel. He's not really the kind of personality we've gotten from a Cobra doctor yet, he's awfully megalomaniacal but also a bit suave. I can't see any of the others who came before him screwing an intelligence agent for a month just to enjoy biding his time until he learns her details.

What is Iran's involvement in this? Or was that just a side deal?

Duke looks like he's wearing some Devil's Due togs a little. What a weird switch up. I can't wait to see his fight with SE, but I figure I already know where that would go, it would be a little one sided so it'll have to be more of an interesting situation with bystanders.

That rappeling bit was interesting, gorgeously drawn. Very fluid. Have we seen the new kid before? I don't remember his name specifically.

I'm getting a serious Dr. Venom vibe from Vargas. I wouldn't be surprised if he adopts that as his codename at some point in the near future.

I'm not sure how I feel about Duke's new look. I'm guessing he's supposed to look badass like a mirror version of Snake-Eyes. However, all I'm thinking is Duke is a walking bio-hazard. Speaking of that, what the heck is up with Doc's judgement. What doctor in their right mind would let someone with an unknown virus out of quarantine?

As for the inevitable fight between Duke and SE, it may not be that one sided. While virus increases Duke's rage, Snake-Eyes will most likely hold back his efforts not to harm him. Not to mention, SE probably doesn't want to puncture Duke's containment suit. Besides, I figure with a guns involved things would be fairly even between the two of them. I'm definitely looking forward to this showdown.

Yes, both of these bothered me too. There is nothing Duke can do which someone else couldn't.

Hey, who are the characters in the poster on that cover? Nobody's tried naming them and a few confuse me.

Left to right we have:

1- Bushido? Tginzu?
2- Nunchuk (looks like Kamakura, but he has the patterning and look of sideshow Nunchuk)
3- Banzai (because of the full face mask and the crazy eyes, read his filecard)
4- Tjbang
5- Scarlett
6- Mainframe
7- Dojo (not Clean Sweep, who I should take a moment to note is
one of my favorite head sculpts and it's great that there's a combat engineer)
8- Budo (looks like Budo, also looks like Nunchuk)
9- Duke (doesn't look familiar as anybody, but he's a white guy with a modest haircut, so... )
10 & 11- Snake Eyes, Hardmaster

There are five missing faces to which there are posters, but clearly we're not limited to filling those spots only with ninjas. None of them look to me like Dojo, but he's always seemed like the "weird uncle" one of the bunch so I could see him wearing that so I put him in 7. Nunchuk now has a track record of being seen without a mask but with a bandana, Banzai is clearly not anyone with black hair. There's a head next to the Hard Master who ostensibly was meant to be someone since there was something of a portrait started. There's also Tiger Paw, and one or two others who came later, right? Maybe one of them is Quick-Kick, to be realistic that would make sense because of the others there who aren't ninjas.

I liked this issue a lot. It felt really packed. The end was too funny when Snake-Eyes asked for Lighthorse to join his mission with Duke as payback for impersonating hi in the showers!
