The word from IDW Senior Editor John Barber is that the Infestation crossovers are "officially" in continuity. Quote: Machete Phil wrote: 2) does the upcoming gi joe infestation 2 storyline take place within or outside of the reboot continuity (or will it continue to be like the first joe infestation story, where andy mentioned that it was a standalone story, and that it was up to the individual reader to decide whether or not they included it in the overall continuity)? John: Just like the first Infestation--a side story to the main storyline but in the same world. http://forum.idwpublishing.com/viewtopi ... c&start=15I think what was previously said was that you can ignore it if you want, so it won't be referred to in any of the other titles.

What the editor means is everything that has happened in the reboot universe has also happened in the Infestation universe, but the reverse is not necessarily true. It is his way of telling readers that Infestation isn't taking place in a world where Snake Eyes breakdanced with Polly, Roadblock saved an American flag from embassy looters, or Mech Suits are available.
Rather, its set against Dixon's world but doesnt have to effect his future stories.

Ghost X, this is exactly how I view it. Or how I put it previously: I, in my great pedantic wisdom, wrote: If you were to put it in set theory terms: Future noir, IDW-verse, DDP-Joe/TF and ARAH are disjoint sets: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disjoint_setsInfestation and IDW are in a subset/superset relationship: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubsetARAH-IDW and ARAH-DDP are intersecting sets (they share the Marvel-ARAH core, but then diverge): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersecti ... _theory%29OK, you can shoot me now for making you do some math.

ah, continuity discussions. They were never really a major concern before IDW. I remember when they announced the return of ARAH in that heated argument that someone said IDW did the same to Transformers (although they already had a worse continuity past).
So maybe in few yrs/decades when IDW loses the license, the next publisher (probably an online only one) will restart the Disavowed continuity as if IDW including ARAH never happen.
By then we will all be so old that we actually be able to remember any of this only the beloved 1980's stories.
Anyway, I just really hate have to have this same conversion about every new comic IDW puts out. Like the Annuals one from each continuity. UGH!!
I like the wiki explaination cause its gotten to that point where it takes math to figure out.
