I'm opposite here. I felt CC's reaction to Billy's death somewhat contradicted his attitude in the Marvel run. He buried him a freighter, and when he found out he'd escaped he went on a tirade about how he wanted him dead.

Of course he later brainwashed him, rather than kill him, so maybe on some level CC softened on the "I WANT HIM DEAD!" attitude. I'm not accustomed to CC being humanized though, because the last time that happened he got a bullet in his back - something the character even felt was a result of him going soft - it just served to drive him further into darkness.

Remember, he didn't have anything to do with this... there's a difference between getting rid of something and losing it, and if there's one weakness that is most apparent with him it is that he is an emotional screwball.

Here's my view on the Blue Ninjas: I'm interested in where it's going. I'm not sure I like the design of the actual cyborgs from what we've seen.

There is a very real movement of philosophy and science called transhumanism, which is very much this, to become a part of the machine. This feels to me very much like Larry exploring the concept of transhumanism, improving oneself in an artificial instead of a natural way such as the Arashikage. I would like to see him actually spend some time lingering on this.

I too thought that CC could use the Blue tech to put Billy back together again. I don't know if I'd want to see that or not. I wanted to see Billy become his own man, I think the most poignant step I ever saw was the DDP arc where he went off to lead the Red Ninjas. Hmmm.

I predict the villans behind the Blue Ninjas are Firefly and Fred VII. Apparently no one ever really died in the Marvel series (except the Hard and Soft Master), so those two will be brought back into the Rogues Gallery.

But Firefly was just used in the last story - with Crystal Ball on the assault of Joe Colton's Chrysler Bldg HQ. And in his old sabotage fatigues, which means he's toning back the ninja stuff (though he did utilize Night Creepers in that mission).

Fred VII........pretty sure he's still as dead as Voltar, Croc Master, Raptor and Captain Minh.

I think this series would be the perfect place to bring in Overkill, who is part human and part robot. Yes, DDP did their version but this would be the perfect part to bring in Overkill's origin. Dr Mindbender needs to be doing other things. Let Overkill be over the BATs! haha

The BATs are awesome but it would be cool to see some of them get some personalities. This technology could do that.

I look forward to seeing what Larry is going to do with this story. He might just surprise us with his future plans... :D

Just a thought...

completely awesome dude. he couldnt have been nicer to me even after the guy in front of me asked him to sign 2 long boxes fulla crap. no lie, it was at a lcs in toronto. i could tell larry was annoyed and said he would do the best he could. the guy said ok ill be back in like an hour and walked off. larry laughes, pushed the boxes aside then talked to me for like 30 minutes. there was no one in line but us two btw.

if you want to get on his good side have him sign a Nth Man comic for you or bring up bucky o'hare. he loved it when i had him sign Nth Man #1, he said its one of his favorite things to have done even though not to many people know about it. i also had him sign wolvie #75 i think it was, the one where he gets the metal ripped out of him. he really liked that bc he had NEVER seen the book before.

it has a hologram card on the cover and he thought that was great. he told me he writes the books and moves on to the next one. he rarely see's the finished book unless a fan shows it to him. i guess its like he always says....its just a job. if it were me id have it in my contract i get a free copy of every issue i do lol

I have the entire series of Nth man, but I still need to actually read it. It's sort of a recent acquisition but it took me a few years to put together completely and I wanted to wait to read it. (I think I'm really probably 6 or 7 issues in but I can't remember if they were in order.)

They're all super dog eared!

Maybe I will take them all out and make them my next "big read." It's a pretty short story but I think long on words. My wife just famously got me my remaining Cerebus trades for Christmas so I'm a busy reader for at least another week! :D

its only 16 issues but yeah its kinda wordy in spots, weird in others, has you scratching you head in some and when it wraps up your like what was larry smokin when he wrote this lol

i really liked the story but wished marvel didnt make him cut it short and had let it go to its full run so it could have ended how he wanted. i think there is a wiki on it or something bc i know i read somewhere that it ended like a year or so sooner then he wanted i think.

That's interesting. I've seen all the covers of the "big marvel guy" later on, and I just expect it's the antagonist being weird or metaphysical.

I'll read it soon and find an old thread on this site to revive, I BLEW through Cerebus this week. It's all downhill from Reads.

I'd personally love to see Hama bring these guys back. 'Course, I'm in the minority here...

fred 7 yes, the others only if he finds a cool way to bring them back and make them cool and not so lame. but really id like them to stay dead.

the joe book even for as sci fi as it can get has to me always been loosly based on something real and by that i mean you can almost see something like this happening in the world bc there is no mutants and the like running around. (ignore the whole x-over with the transformers).

and with that id hope that once someone was dead he stayed dead unless it was something for the plot line ss dieing briefly when serpentor was made. which i hope is what billy's death will be, something short lived to cause shock and awe only to have him brought back in a new cool way

Great story. It was part of the Marvel's crossover "Fatal Attractions". I think it covered one issue each of Wolverine, X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, X-Force, and X-Factor.

yeah it sure was. i was into all the X titles back then, not just wolvie bc of hama. i dropped the x titles except for wolvie about a year or so after that due to poor writing and it seemed every three months there was a stupid cross over. just as the story in one book would get good they would have a cross over and bc of it the story lines would change and they left the old story line hanging.

not a fan of the cross overs every year. i know why they do them but it ruins the story line for me. leaves to many loose ends that never get fixed and brushed over even worse when a new writer is brought in. no wonder why there is so many re-boots and such.

This was classic Hama.

Bringing the body to CC made the death more significant: Classic Hama.

The tank tension in the streets that turned out ot be a paint-ball contest for selling tanks! Classic Hama.

Sneak-Peek's encounter with his Alzheimer mom: Classic Hama.

The OG and the Joes joining up forces to protect defenseless civilians from assured slaughter: Classic Hama. (though I wonder why they couldn't just keep hiding in the attics)

My only dislike was the cyborg nonesense. Not that I'm against sci-fi (hey, we have BATs and stuff)... it's just that we barely got out of the whole mess with the BWS and I was hoping for some mystic Arashikage stuff to balance things out and we're into more high-tech sci-fi.

Anyway, good issue overall.
