As many of you know, I take great pride in my GI Joe comic collection. Up until 2005 I had every cover of every issue since 1982 that had the GI Joe name on it. Then 2006 comes around and old Uncle Sam sends me to Egypt for a year.

I had my wife pick up my comics for me, but during that time was the GI Joe vs Transformers Art of War series, and in typical Joe/TF fashion each issue had two covers (or three). Now, a year later I am trying to get all the ones I have missed.

It has been a very interesting experience since many of my normal online dealers didn't have the issues I needed. It has been entertaining, and the comic hunter in me has enjoyed it, but the completist in me wishes it had been a one stop shop.

Once I get all the ones I ordered in, I will take some pics of the collection and post them up here....if anyone is interested.

Oddly enough, I'm a little jealous, you are probably saving a lot of money compared to original retail!

Being a fellow completist, I understand your enjoyment of the hunt.

I am always surfing ebay for stuff.

And since I collect basically anything printed with GI Joe on it. I am always looking for books and such.
It is very entertaining and sometimes expensive.

Alright, I got a little more organized today, and here are the pics (they are a bit big, so I will give you links):

First, the entire collection.

Box 1 is the Marvel box This contains the entire Marvel run and things like Special Missions and Yearbooks.

Box 2 is the DDP box This contains all the DDP run and AE plus things like Frontlines, Special Missions and the Declassified books. (The small books in front are there because this was the only normal box I had they fit in)

Box 3 is my "other" box This contains all the "other" stuff, like GI Joe v TFs, Reloaded, Sigma 6, Extreme, 3-D etc.

Box 4 is my Action Force box Because the Action Force magazines are larger than normal comics I had to get a special box, bags and boards.

Here are some of my #1s:

Marvel #1

Action Force #1

DDP #1

Extreme #1

AE #1

A couple items I like to show off:

My GI Joe divider I got this from a comic shop outside Ft. Hood about 7 years ago. I offered to buy it from the guy and he just gave it to me.

What I consider my most unique and interesting comic is this.
No, it is not my #155 or Special #1, but instead a GI Joe #21....in French...that one of the very nice forum members here sent me.

Finally....my work in progress: My GI Joe art wall This is a wall in my office. I have about 6 more pieces of art that I am going to hang, but right now it is just my plaque and my Reloaded artwork. I have pages from Frontline, the Marvel series, the DDP run and America's Elite to join it soon...I hope.

EDIT: I forgot the "stored" picture.

When I have more time I will take pictures of individual issues if you want to see them.

Phil

I commend you on your work in preserving those. I'm the kind of guy who buys comics to read until their covers begin to fall off. I do hope to see a picture of that wall once you've hanged the other artwork. That single piece looks so lonesome all by itself on that barren wall it's downright adorable.

Man your issue number 1 looks awesome. Great piece.

I saw how many books you had and my jaw dropped. I did not realize there were that many when all put together.

Need to get your wall art soon, that one is looking very lonely.

A French #21.

That is a very special find. I am jealous.

I recently lost out on a whole group of Spanish language Marvel's. They were on ebay on Spain's version of Ebay. I couldn't read a word on the site but the Joe covers were in Spanish. The damn Euro is so it would have been like $150 for like 40 issues. I was disappointed. Cause foreign language Joe comics are the next area my completeist crazyness is taking me.

Ah the completist bug. I have it for star wars figures. I try to get one of every original trilogy figure to keep loose. I learned a long time ago it is difficult to live with the bug! I used to try and get 2 of everything (one carded, one loose). Then dropped to 1 of everything. Then dropped the prequels trilogy. Now I may only get one of each character in each uniform.... It has become sooo expensive!!

I find there are 2 types of collectors. 1 who loves the thrill of the hunt and one who just wants the stuff. I am the latter. :) That's why I hate exclusives. They're a pain in the butt and the wallet!

As for joe comics; I am a story completist. I want all original marvel comic continuity stories. That's why I hate original content in TPBs (I have yet to get the Lady Jaye funeral story in whatever TPB it's in). I'm pretty close to complete. Missing a dozen marvel issues, but I'm a cheapskate and refuse to pay $10+ per comic for those issues in the 140s. Still need to get a few European missions and Action Force comics (those are out of contiuity, but I'd like to get them).

Anyways, that's an awsome feat to have what you have Phil. Good stuff. :)

I've only seen some French Joe isses a few times on Ebay, mostly they're from Canada. But still, that'd be pretty sweet to have in a collection. 8)

Hello my name is Janus and I am a Joe completionist. I have curbed my completionist tendancies for 2 weeks now (well I guess I did buy my current Joe books, but I held off buying the alternate covers for Declassified number 3). Good to know I am not the only person who when he looks at all the titles, toys, cover art just not start humming the gotta catch them all theme song from Pokemon...or maybe I am oh well, forget you read that.

Well, I just ordered the last two items I needed. (Snake-Eyes Declassified HC, and Joe/TF Art of War #1 cover C)

So, with those two items and the other three items I have in the mail I will have all the US printed comics.

I am still working on my UK collection (very slowly).

The ONE comic I want to add to my collection, but have NEVER seen for sale or auction is this.

If I ever get that one, I would truely believe my collection finished. (As far as the old Marvel series goes ;) )

That Snake-Eyes Hardcover is something I have been hoping will go down in price. Haven't seen it happen yet.

Just to much for one TPB. Even for this completeist.

It remains one of hte holes.

Although, I just filled one I realized I was missing the GVTF II #2 Sketch cover.

If I may: it's a French-Canadian 21 ;-)

You can still find some in Montreal comic shops. I have most of them.

I recently bought a few GI JOE comics in Swedish during my visit to Stockholm. Oddly enough five of them were called Action Force (with a subtitle saying something like 'known as GI JOE on tv!') and one of them was called GI JOE.
