But at the end ask yourself, "Why is GI Joe a hobby of mine?" and "Do I still enjoy the hobby enough to invest money, time and effort into it?"
I know this is an older thread but I really wanted to answer this.

Why is G.I. Joe a hobby of mine?
I love the characters (Duke, Snake Eyes, Roadblock, Cobra Commander).
Collecting the action figures is a lot of fun.
Nostalgia! (I loved the old Sunbow series and the original RAH toys).
Completely excited for the IDW titles.
It's good, old-fashioned patriotism. Something that seems to be lacking these days.

Do I still enjoy the hobby enough to invest money, time and effort?
Heck yes! I love finding new Joe figures on the pegs at my local WalMart or Target. It really is a relatively cheap hobby. I'm not an action figure completest. I get the ones I like and at $6-8 a figure, that ain't bad!

I enjoy posting at the IDW Message Board (and now HERE) and discussing G.I. Joe. Once the IDW books are released in early '09 I'll be even more excited. (Plus we'll have the live-action movie to review, analyze, and pick apart.) Oh, I forgot all about G.I. Joe: Resolute!

It truly is a great time to be a fan of G.I. Joe!
