This sounds very intriguing! I can't wait to get m hands on this one and I absolutely love the cover. I think what's so cool about IDW's approach to G.I. Joe is their unwavering commitment to remain bold and not be afraid to take risks. :D

In a way though, now that I think about it, it seems this storyline would do much better in the Cobra series. Any thoughts on that?

It certainly sounds like something from the Cobra series, and the cover looks like it, too. This may just be IDW's reaction to Cobra being so acclaimed. Learning from that and making some similar stories in another series.

My question here is whether or not those two characters are completely original or will "become" established Cobra characters.

I thought the same thing - the cover AND the story sounds more along the lines of the COBRA series. I even had to check twice before posting that cover picture up.

I was wondering if this was a "new" character or an exsisting Cobra as well. Guess we will find out. I prefer exsisting characters, but seeing a character that becomes a Cobra "trooper" or Viper of some type is cool. 8)

with lapham writing it ... its got to be good. does feel like a cobra issue. hopefully, origins is raising its bar a little to fit in.

If the "Sedition by Numbers" storyline is running in Origins #'s 20-23, we might have a reason why the silent issue is #19. Maybe whoever this Origin is about ends up being someone extremely important in the leadup to the end of the M.A.S.S. device storyline in the main series?

I think you nailed it, Slick. They had to push the Silent Issue Tribute to issues 19 due to the upcoming arc. From the sound of it, this arc will be a turning point in the series.
IDW has done such a good job with the three main series. I am very pleased.

Very interesting cover, Tom. I think I disagree with your sentiment, I don't think I either love it or hate it, but I certainly appreciate it. I think it has a really unique look for a GI Joe cover, and it is certainly different. But I think my appreciation for it increased after reading your explanation. I tend to love getting that kind of insight into art and the choices that are made. So, yeah, pretty darn cool overall, even though it is in a style that is not necessarily my favourite. Also, I have to say the unused Joe logo is pretty darn cool too. Thumbs up by me. :)
