Quote: G.I. Joe: Origins #21 David Lapham (w) • Werther Dell’Edera (a) • Tom Feister (c) David Lapham’s “Sedition by Numbers” continues here! The Mad Monk begins his training with COLOSSUS WORLD SECURITY, INC., which is owned by COBRA, of course. Torture is the routine and Monk is singled out for extra attention. If the camp doesn’t break him, then his first mission might have him wondering whose side he’s on. There’s no bottom to this rabbit hole.

Man, Tom, do you ever NOT knock one out of the park And what will you be doing after the series ends? More Joe I hope ! One question: In the old Marvel series, the Cobra flag was blue with the red logo. What made you choose a crimson background? Did you just wing it or was it thought of as a new flag for Cobra or a specific flag for the Crimson Guard?

For my birthday on Monday, I would like everyone to buy an extra copy for a friend.

This is a really compelling story... is Monk an 8? A 2? Perhaps the impossible 1?
I think it's leaning to a pretty specific point, that Horvath is underscoring the Monk a point to make "his one and only friend" underestimate Monk. Horvath has a strong character voice. I am afraid we'll watch him dispatch Monk as an assassin at the Commander only to find out that there is another possibility, a 9, only Horvath was too limited to know this and so he'll find Monk come back to kill him, having been outmatched.
2's get to be in the leaky suit brigade automatically.

My post from the IDW board: shanecdavis wrote: I think this was another great issue by Lapham. I am also amazed that I am liking a Joe story that has such a totally different feel to it. I don't think this issue mentions or even alludes to a single Joe or COBRA either. It stands on its own merits. It definitely has a psychological thriller feel to it.
We get to see more of the COBRA training, and the mention that COBRA troopers are just as well trained as any other nation's. It also makes me feel that Skull Buster's training is definitely more specialized. I am liking it. Makes the IDW COBRA trooper much more deadly than ARAH troopers.
In Marine Corps boot camp you are certainly tested psychologically, hell I even snickered at how Raston resembled one of my own drill instructors. Well, without the knee to the face of course. I think there is no question that Monk is an 8, simply by the extent that Horvath had to go to break him. Telling him his daughter died and his wife left him is sick, and putting a photo of his supposed dead daughter on a target was pure evil. I can say with a surety that I would have put multiple rounds into Raston and the others at that point. Sick effing bastards.
I won't comment on the art, as you all pretty much know where I stand on that subject. I will say that it appears Origins is going out on a high note, which is much needed after the whole Clayface......errrrrr Zartan stomach-churner. I am going to miss this title. It sure has provided many solid stories. Many of my favorite issues are Origins. Of course many of my least favorite are Origins too, so you can take from that what you will. Tom, I hope you had an enjoyable birthday! I wasn't able to get to my NLSCS until today so all I was able to get was the one issue I had in my holds. Thankfully it was yours. I will say you have another great cover. As usual. The only thing that would be better than a Joe comic with a Feister cover would be a comic with a Feister cover and a Feister interior! Here is to hoping you and Andy can work something out. *cough cough* Take over duties for COBRA *cough cough*

I take it Horvath's "one and only friend" is Cobra Commander. I'm pretty sure on this one, but I just wanted to make sure I was on the same page. I'm liking where this storyline is heading. These first two issues have been sort of a slow build, but I think issue #22 will have a lot more action. And hopefully an appearance by Cobra Commander.

I was a bit confused here, I thought his daughter had indeed died. Now I understand, but still it wasn't as smooth as the first issue.
A solid story nevertheless. Am on the edge of my seat!
