hey everyone.

Im fairly new to GIJoe comics e need some help. so far, I've read the first 5 volumes of the IDW re-releases, the first vol of Special Missions, the DDP StormShadow mini e the Cobra mini, along w Hearts e Minds by IDW. so anyway, I've read a lot of negative comments on various sites about the stuff published by DDP e I've noticed that most people tend to have a lot of negative feelings towards the main DDP book. I'm sort of divided in my mind as to whether I should check out certain parts of the main title or simply avoid it altogether. so, my question, at this point, is basiclly this- if I do decide to read some of the book, which trades/arcs/issues of the main book should I check out?

DDP's Special Missions: Manhattan is what got me hooked on GI Joe again. I personally loved Americas Elite, except for a certain Snake Eyes story...
The lead up to it was great, I just didn't like how they resolved it - and neither did ANYONE else it seems.

The rest was great though.

First off be aware that you have read from 3 different continuities. "I've read the first 5 volumes of the IDW re-releases, the first vol of Special Missions," By which I think you mean the IDW Classics. That is the original A Real American Hero (ARAH) continuity.

"the DDP StormShadow minithe DDP StormShadow mini" I am assuming the Hama 7 issue series. That is considered part of the Disavowed continuity. Which was created when IDW restarted the Marvel stories with issue #155.5 and then Hasbro officially said all of the DDP stories were an alternate universe.

" the Cobra mini, along w Hearts e Minds by IDW" These are the IDW universe. And completely separate from the DDP one AND the ARAH one that Hama wrote in the 80-90's and restarted in 2010.

Just helping keep you straight on the mess of GI Joe continuities.

If your just starting I would stick with the IDW universe. They have created a really great storyline with the Cobra Civil War that seems like it will be an adventure to read. And there is a ton of story between the Main title, Origins and all of hte Cobra books that really all plays into the this newest storyline. So I would suggest getting current on the IDW universe.

Then go get the IDW ARAH books which continue the story.

DDP has several hundred issues that will take a awhile to piece together. But in this universe you should check out Snake Eyes Declassified (www.yojoe.com/comics/declassified) & GI Joe Declassified (www.yojoe.com/comics/gijoedeclassified) both are good starting points for that universe.

Enjoy.

And if get lost or confused check out YOJoe.com/comics

It has most of the anwsers

thanks for all the info. I think I will get more into the IDW-verse, considering I dont need any back story. I can just read it without having to have read all of Hama's initial ARAH book first.
meanwhile, Im also gonna continue reading Hama's original, since Im already 50 issues in, plus the first 7 Special Missions.
