G.I. Joe: Retaliation Movie Prequel
John Barber (w) • Salvador Navarro & Atilio Rojo (a) • Salvador Navarro (c)
Snake Eyes and Roadblock. Perhaps the most dangerous of all the JOEs — their combination of stealth, cunning, power, and raw courage is nearly unmatched. Go figure, these two forces of might can't always see eye-to-eye. But when Storm Shadow and his ninja enter the picture, these two JOEs will have to put aside their differences if they want to stop the enemy.
TPB • FC • $17.99 • 104 pages • ISBN 978-1-61377-203-4

Bullet points:

Overall, pretty much what you'd expect from a movie prequel. Not bad like the Rise of Cobra ones.

I read it after seeing the movie, not because I was afraid of spoilers, but because, after the movie got delayed in 2012, I put the issues in my drawer and didn't have time to read them in the weeks before the movie came out.

In character with the movie personas. I like the movie Roadblock, but it's weird to see him take the front stage like this.

It was a good team-up to put him with Snake-Eyes, couldn't help remember when Dixon did it with Beach-Head/SE in DDP's Reloaded, using the silents to fill in with humour.

My complaint is always the same with these movie spin-offs: the content is always pretty thin, cause they can't spoil things and they basically need to wrap up without affecting the continuity. they also read too fast.

Still, they killed Mainframe... I was expecting him to be rescued.

Someone pointed out that Mainframe has gotten killed in other continuities. And apparently, so does Duke in movies! They brought him back in the cartoon movie, I wonder if they'll bring him back in GI Joe 3!
