*Spoilers*

No surprises here.
For some reason, the Blind Master and Snake-Eyes think they have all the time in the world to teach this huge A.W.O.L. American how to be a ninja. Once again, I'm asking why?
When you fight masters of the esoteric martial arts who have spent their whole life training in their country of origin, you don't grab the first urban occidental soldier without a clue and train him to combat them. That would take years!
What you do is, you go find your own army of master assassins who know what it is they are up against, if you can, or you go home. Anything else will be suicide for Roadblock and his trainers.
However, like every "American Ninja" movie, I'm sure our favorite military chef will be wasting Red Ninjas left and right by issue #4.
Where's Wolverine when you need him?

I hope that doesn't happen, but what I got from it is that they're trying to give him a little more defensive options and understanding of what he's up against. I think it makes sense to have Snakes train other Joes, as long as they don't actually become ninja themselves... that would indeed be quite ridiculous.

I'm skipping commenting on the first two issues because my store didn't order them until I said something but I sat down and read all three of the first ones in one sitting last night. I'll probably get to the fourth one tonight. I'm really digging this prequel series a LOT.

Comparing it to Rise of Cobra prequel or Op Hiss wouldn't be fair. This thing is taking elements of the time before Rise of Cobra (with the appropriate movie costume for that continuity!), mixing it with more development of the Arashikage events from the first movie, and blending in a ton of different elements from the game and probably other sources. It was really well thought out. I completely was going to give this a pass after the prior movie series but this made sense out of the whole mess of stuff that came before and (total assumption here) looks like it is actually really setting up the movie in a way that these sorts of projects usually do not.

It ain't no ARAH but I'm very glad that I chose to get it. After I read the fourth one I'll have to look back though it and pick out my favorite nods because I planned to read only one last night and just tore through them instead.

Ok... the best issue.

Background on Snake-Eyes.

Snake-Eyes trains Roadblock.

The end. Next!
